Scope of Work:
The Electrical Specialist is responsible for the inspection, installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of high and low-voltage electrical utility systems and equipment. This role ensures the safe and reliable operation of electrical infrastructure in accordance with applicable codes, standards, and operational requirements.
Responsibilities:
- Inspect, repair, install, adjust, and maintain high and low voltage electrical systems, including transformers, switchgear, substations, and distribution systems.
- Perform installation, testing, and inspection of electrical systems using prints, diagrams, specifications, and technical instructions.
- Troubleshoot and repair electrical circuits, equipment, and systems using appropriate test instruments and diagnostic tools.
- Maintain and repair electrical components, including control panels, regulators, alarm systems, and UPS systems.
- Perform switching operations on electrical utility systems, including placing grounds, locks, and protective devices in accordance with safety procedures.
- Work on power lines and electrical systems to isolate, ground, maintain, and restore service as required.
- Conduct testing, calibration, and maintenance of protective devices and electrical systems.
- Perform preventive maintenance, repairs, and replacements on AC and DC systems and circuits.
- Install conduit, piping, wiring, and electrical apparatus for system upgrades, modifications, or repairs.
- Operate tools, equipment, and vehicles necessary to perform electrical work; may include rigging and erecting scaffolding.
- Prepare and maintain accurate records, reports, and documentation related to maintenance and testing activities.
- Conduct inspections during facility modifications to ensure safe and continuous operation of electrical systems.
- Notify appropriate personnel prior to power shutdowns that may impact operations.
- Provide guidance or supervision to electricians, helpers, and other maintenance personnel, as assigned.
- Adhere to company policies, procedures, and safety regulations.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Journeyman Electrician license required.
- Demonstrated experience working with high and low voltage electrical systems (600V and above).
- Knowledge of NFPA 70E standards and OSHA electrical safety requirements.
- Completion of high voltage electrical safety training, including arc flash training.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, and technical specifications.
- Proficiency in using electrical test equipment and diagnostic tools.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a dynamic environment.
- Experience in a government contract or industrial/maintenance environment is preferred.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense security clearance (Secret or higher, as required by site).
- Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license and a safe driving record, in accordance with company policy, to operate vehicles or equipment as required for the position.
Physical Demands / Work Environment:
- Physical requirements include (but are not limited to) the ability to lift up to 50 pounds, push, pull, carry, climb, stoop, kneel, and work in physically demanding conditions.
- Work requires prolonged standing, walking, and working in various positions, including at heights and in confined spaces.
- May involve exposure to high voltage systems, electrical hazards, noise, and varying environmental conditions; appropriate PPE is required at all times.
- Work may be performed indoors or outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Must be able to respond to emergency situations and work on-call, alternate, or extended shifts, including weekends and holidays, as required.
