Scope of Work:

The Carpenter-Painter (Maintenance) performs carpentry and painting duties to maintain and improve the structural integrity and aesthetic appearance of buildings, fixtures, and equipment. This role involves repairing, constructing, and finishing woodwork, as well as preparing, painting, and refinishing surfaces to ensure proper maintenance and functionality. The position requires versatility in both carpentry and painting trades, with an emphasis on quality craftsmanship and adherence to safety standards.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and repair woodwork and equipment such as bins, cribs, counters, benches, partitions, and doors
  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and models to plan and lay out work
  • Use a variety of carpentry hand tools, power tools, and measuring instruments
  • Make shop computations related to dimensions and material selection
  • Cut, shape, assemble, and install wooden structures and fixtures
  • Repair or replace damaged doors, cabinets, and wooden furniture
  • Ensure all woodwork meets structural integrity and aesthetic standards
  • Paint and redecorate walls, woodwork, and fixtures, removing old finishes, Filling nail holes, cracks, and imperfections with putty or filler
  • Mix and match colors, oils, white lead, and other paint ingredients to achieve the desired consistency and shade
  • Work with different types of paints, stains, and coatings suitable for various surfaces
  • Ensure smooth, even coatings and a professional finish
  • Documents and records work order status.
  • Complete all training within the required timeline.
  • Consistently produces quality products and services.
  • Perform all work safely and securely.
  • Perform all assigned duties under established policies, procedures, and directives.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Must be a US Citizen or authorized to work in the US or a US territory.
  • In general, the work of a carpenter requires rounded training and experience usually acquired through a formal apprenticeship or equivalent training and experience.
  • Has the responsibility of being available on twenty-four (24) hour calls to facilitate emergency repairs to equipment that is critical to operations.
  • Must have the skill and technical ability to interpret so as to complete installations and repairs as required and must be able to apply advanced trade techniques to modify and execute in order to minimize equipment downtime. This is done in most cases without benefit of direct supervision.
  • Duties will require frequent periods of sitting, standing, kneeling, walking, crouching, crawling, reaching, and balancing. Physically fit to bend, stoop, and lift in awkward positions and able to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Has the ability to work inside and outside in all kinds of weather in various government buildings.
  • Must maintain licenses and/or credentials required for this position.
  • Ability to speak, read, and write English.
  • Must possess the ability to interact well with others in a team setting ability or alone and be able to change jobs on short notice.
  • Must be capable of working under tight time constraints in a high-volume environment with multiple priorities.
  • Highly motivated, flexible organized and must be detail oriented.
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be able to maintain ability to access government worksite.
  • Must have practical knowledge of worksite safety, occupational hazards, and standard safety practices.
  • Must be able to perform on-call duties when necessary and report to work within the required timeframe from notification. 
  • Must have and maintain a valid state driver’s license to operate a company vehicle.
  • Must have a safe driving record, as defined by Company policy, to operate a company vehicle.
  • Must be able to successfully complete a drug/alcohol test and a criminal record check.
