Scope of Work:
The First Class Engineer is responsible for the safe, efficient operation and maintenance of plant equipment and utility systems during assigned shifts. This role ensures the continuous and reliable delivery of facility services, including heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC), refrigeration, steam, high-temperature water, and/or electrical systems.
Responsibilities:
- Operate and maintain plant systems that provide facility services including heating, cooling, ventilation, refrigeration, steam, hot water, and electrical distribution.
- Monitor system performance by observing gauges, meters, charts, and control systems to ensure safe and efficient operation.
- Adjust system controls to meet operational demands and maintain optimal performance.
- Record operational data, system readings, and maintenance activities in logs and reports.
- Perform routine inspections and preventative maintenance to ensure equipment remains in proper working condition.
- Troubleshoot operational issues and take corrective action to maintain system reliability.
- Maintain engines, machinery, and associated equipment in safe and functional condition.
- Respond to system alarms, emergencies, and operational issues in a timely and effective manner.
- Coordinate or direct the work of other personnel involved in plant operations, as assigned.
- Ensure compliance with all safety practices, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Adhere to company policies, procedures, and safety regulations.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Valid First Class Engineer License required.
- Demonstrated experience operating and maintaining plant systems such as HVAC, boilers, chillers, refrigeration, steam, or electrical systems.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, controls, and plant operations.
- Ability to read and interpret gauges, meters, charts, and system diagrams.
- Basic troubleshooting and problem-solving skills related to plant operations.
- Ability to work independently and respond effectively in emergency situations.
- Experience in a government contract or industrial/maintenance environment is preferred.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense security clearance (Secret or higher, as required by site).
- Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license and a safe driving record, in accordance with company policy, to operate vehicles or equipment as required for the position.
Physical Demands / Work Environment:
- Physical requirements include (but are not limited to) the ability to lift up to 50 pounds, push, pull, carry, stand, walk, climb, stoop, and work in confined spaces or at heights.
- Work involves continuous monitoring of systems and may require extended periods of standing or walking within plant environments.
- May be exposed to noise, heat, mechanical equipment, and varying environmental conditions; appropriate PPE is required.
- Work may be performed indoors or outdoors, depending on system and facility requirements.
- Must be able to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, holidays, and on-call schedules, as required to support continuous operations.
