Scope of Work:

The primary purpose of this position is to perform a variety of Flight Equipment Technician duties in direct support of the Consolidated Maintenance Management and Repair Services (CMMARS) AV-8B program at Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Cherry Point. This position ensures that all aircrew flight equipment meets operational, safety, and mission readiness standards in accordance with applicable technical directives, manufacturer specifications, and government regulations.

Responsibilities:

  • Conducts periodic, scheduled, and unscheduled inspections, tests, and maintenance on aircrew flight equipment, including parachutes, life rafts, survival kits, oxygen masks, helmets, pressure suits, anti-G suits, and other protective or survival systems.
  • Ensures correct fitting and comfort of aircrew flight gear; assists aircrew in proper donning and adjustment of equipment.
  • Works directly with aircrew and maintenance personnel to identify, troubleshoot, and resolve issues with flight or survival gear.
  • Certifies aircrew flight equipment as safe for flight and properly documents all inspections, repairs, and maintenance actions in accordance with applicable maintenance data systems.
  • Performs operational and continuity checks on survival radios, beacons, and other emergency signaling and communication devices.
  • Disassembles, repairs, reassembles, and tests life support and survival systems to ensure compliance with OEM and government standards.
  • Uses appropriate hand tools, test equipment, blueprints, schematics, and technical data to perform maintenance tasks.
  • Follows all prescribed safety, quality assurance, and environmental procedures to ensure a safe and compliant work environment.
  • Occasionally works alternate shifts, weekends, or irregular hours to support mission or flight operations.
  • Adhere to company policies, procedures, and safety regulations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience maintaining aircrew flight equipment and three (3) years of experience supporting flight line operations.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance, including successful completion of a Tier 1 National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI).
  • Proficient knowledge of mechanical and electrical repair, maintenance procedures, and inspection techniques for aircrew survival and flight equipment.
  • Familiarity with aircraft egress systems, pyrotechnic/explosive devices, and associated safety procedures.
  • Understanding of worksite safety, occupational hazards, and standard safety practices.
  • Competency in office automation software (Microsoft Office Suite: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access).
  • Ability to work alternate schedules, on-call shifts, weekends, and holidays as mission needs dictate.
  • Must report to work within one hour of notification when on-call.
  • U.S. citizenship may be required based on contract specifications.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license and a safe driving record, in accordance with company policy, to operate vehicles or equipment as required for the position.

Physical Demands / Work Environment:

  • Work involves frequent standing, sitting, walking, kneeling, crouching, crawling, climbing, and reaching in various positions.
  • Must be physically capable of lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling up to 60 pounds.
  • Requires manual dexterity and coordination to operate hand tools, test equipment, and precision instruments.
  • Work may be performed indoors and outdoors, often in extreme weather conditions (heat, cold, humidity, wind).
  • Exposure to moderate noise levels, hazardous materials, and moving mechanical parts may occur.
  • Must be capable of working independently or as part of a team in a high-tempo, mission-critical environment.
  • Must be able to work on-call, alternate, and extended shift schedules when necessary to meet the mission requirements, including weekends and holidays.
  • Work may be performed indoors and outdoors, often in extreme weather conditions (heat, cold, humidity, wind). Must be able to work in confined spaces, at heights, and around various hazards with appropriate PPE.
