Scope of Work: The Food Service Worker supports dining facility (DFAC) operations by preparing, serving, and handling food; maintaining cleanliness and sanitation; and ensuring efficient, high-quality food service in compliance with Army standards and safety regulations.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide courteous and professional service to all guests.
  • Prepare and set up dining and serving areas with food, utensils, and condiments.
  • Serve meals on the main line, speed line, and short-order areas; assist with salad and beverage stations.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of food preparation areas, serving lines, dining rooms, and equipment.
  • Operate dishwashing equipment and manually clean dishes, silverware, and kitchen tools as required.
  • Perform basic food preparation, including sandwiches, salads, and baked goods; assist with special orders as needed.
  • Restock non-food supplies, paper goods, and cleaning materials.
  • Perform cashiering duties, including processing payments and making change.
  • Cross-train and assist with custodial duties when necessary.
  • Report to the Lead, Food Service Manager, and Program Manager.

Requirements:

  • One (1) year of previous food service or kitchen experience in a full-service or high-volume setting preferred.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a ServSafe Certification.
  • Prior experience working in a military dining facility (DFAC) preferred.
  • Must successfully complete Food Service Medical Clearance per Tri-Service Food Code (TB Med 530).
  • Must adhere to dress code, grooming standards, and hygiene requirements per Army food service regulations.
  • Ability to obtain an interim Secret Clearance prior to start.
  • Possess a valid state driver’s license and a safe driving record to operate vehicles or equipment as required for the position.
  • All candidates must successfully complete pre-employment screening including a comprehensive background check, motor vehicle record review, and a 5-panel drug test.

Physical Demands / Work Environment:

  • Work performed in a fast-paced commercial kitchen environment with exposure to heat, noise, sharp tools, and cleaning chemicals.
  • Requires adherence to food safety, sanitation, and occupational safety standards.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical activities such as pushing, pulling, carrying, stooping, bending, squatting, standing, and reaching for extended periods.
  • Must be available to work on-call, alternate, and extended shifts—including nights, weekends, and holidays—to support mission requirements.
  • Employees may be required to remain on-site for extended periods during scheduled exercises or real-world events (e.g., 24-hour lockdowns) to meet contractual obligations.
