The pay listed above is encompassing of a total range, final compensation offered will be dependent upon several factors to include but not limited to years of experience and education within the position and industry.

Scope of Work:

The Heating and Cooling Plant Supervisor is responsible supervising both operations and maintenance personnel on a rotating shift basis. Oversee and direct operations in safely providing required services to the customer. This includes the operation of boilers, commercial chillers, compressed air systems, potable water systems, cooling towers and various other building services.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervises department to ensure that the stationary boilers, air compressors, and chillers are operating safely, and are providing utilities for the buildings supplied.
  • Oversee, schedule and direct maintenance personnel in the safe troubleshooting, diagnosis, and repair of the equipment needed to deliver required services to the customer.
  • Using industry best practices, prioritizing maintenance needs to best utilize available manpower.
  • Communicate with management and work control the status of all work orders reported during the shift.
  • Interacts with the maintenance department, plant management and regulatory inspectors.
  • Ensures department maintains machinery to comply with customer specifications as well as manufacturers specifications.
  • Ensures department maintains remote standalone boilers to comply with customer specifications as well as manufacturers specifications.
  • Ensures that equipment is maintained to meet desired processing rates.
  • Supervises to ensure that all facility systems are operating safely and within code.
  • Supervise staff, promoting a safe work environment through adherence to standard company safety rules.
  • Train, mentor, and coach employees to ensure the workforce is continuously improving in the areas of job knowledge, skills and the ability to safely preform assigned tasks.
  • Analyze operations and problems to take appropriate action to ensure safe, continuous and reliable functioning of equipment and systems.
  • Observe, interpret and log readings on gauges, meters and charts registering various aspects of boiler operation to ensure that boilers are functioning properly.
  • Develop proper operation, safety and maintenance procedure.
  • Maintain stationary boilers, air compressors, chillers and other mechanical /HVAC equipment to comply with customer specifications as well as manufacturers specifications.
  • Operates within given SOP parameters that ensure desired boiler water chemistry.
  • Fill vacancies and assign overtime as required and according to contract to maintain the required workforce onsite at all times.
  • Act as off hours contact for all plant emergency issues. Communicate to management as needed or instructed on all daily and after-hours plant activities.
  • Adhere to company policies, procedures, and safety regulations.
  • Consistently produces quality products and service.
  • Completes all training within required timeline.
  • Performs all work in a safe and secure manner.
  • Performs other duties as assigned. 

Minimum Requirements:

  • Must have a minimum of three (3) years supervisory experience and eight (8) years of trade experience as a Stationary Engineer. Will accept fifteen (15) years trade experience in lieu of supervisory experience.
  • Must possess a National Institute Uniform Licensing of Power Engineer (NIULPE) First Class Engineer license or equivalent.
  • Must be able to successfully complete a National Agency Check with Inquiries (Tier 1) background check.
  • Must possess the ability to work in a high-volume office area and interface in a positive manner with co-workers and the customer.
  • Must possess the ability to work in a team or alone and be able to change jobs on short notice.
  • Performs all assigned duties in accordance with established policies, procedures, and directives.
  • Displays courtesy and skill in dealing with internal and external customers, coworkers, and management.
  • Accurately maintains and updates records to enable quick and efficient retrieval of information.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to speak, read, and write English.  
  • Must possess the ability to interact well with others in a team setting ability or alone and be able to change jobs on short notice. 
  • Must be capable of working under tight time constraints in a high-volume environment with multiple priorities. 
  • Highly motivated, flexible organized and must be detail oriented. 
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills. 
  • Must be able to maintain ability to access government worksite. 
  • Must have practical knowledge of worksite safety, occupational hazards, and standard safety practices. 
  • Work is performed both indoors and outdoors environments. Some work is performed with exposure to low to loud noise level; frequent fieldwork is required with exposure to a variety of weather conditions and the external environment; tasks may require working in tightly enclosed spaces and the use of ladders or other safety equipment to gain access to hard-to-reach locations; some work is performed in crawl spaces, attics or on rooftops. Some work may require exposure to dust, particulates, unpleasant and potentially hazardous substances and high voltage.
  • Duties require on a continuous basis to sit, stand, bend, climb ladders, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl and twist for varying periods in the course of work; use hands and fingers to grasp tools; make repetitive hand and body motions; twist and reach below and above shoulder; lift or carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds; to communicate with co-workers using a two-way radio; use telephone, and write or use a keyboard to communicate through written means; see in the normal vision range with or without correction to read computer screen, blueprints, and drafting plans; hear in the normal range with or without correction.
  • Must be able to work alternate and extended shift schedules when necessary to meet the customer’s mission requirements, including weekends and holidays.   
  • Must have and maintain a valid state driver’s license to operate a company vehicle. 
  • Must have a safe driving record, as defined by Company policy, to operate a company vehicle. 
  • Must be able to successfully complete a drug/alcohol test and a criminal record check.
