Scope of Work:
A Lineman performs a variety of electrical trade functions such as the installation, maintenance and repair of equipment vital to the Electrical Distribution System on Fort Carson. The Lineman will perform maintenance and repair on the High Voltage distribution overhead and underground systems.
Responsibilities:
Work involves most of the following:
- Testing of electrical systems for the integrity and proper function.
- Repair and maintenance of Transformers, Electrical Switches, Cables, Wires and Electrical Vaults. Troubleshooting and making repairs when large power interruptions occur as well as preventing such outages from occurring.
- Working from blueprints, drawings and maps; locate and diagnose trouble in the electrical systems or equipment using a variety of electricians hand tools and measuring and testing instruments.
- The Lineman works with high voltage electricity and must thoroughly understand OSHA regulations and have an in-depth knowledge of electrical safety.
- Consistently produces quality products and service.
- Completes all training within required timeline.
- Performs all work in a safe and secure manner.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements:
- Successful candidate must have completed a formal journey lineman apprenticeship and carry a Journeyman Lineman Certification.
- Must be able to demonstrate proficiency and expertise in the field and be able to troubleshoot problems in the field during power outages, to limit the time of the power outage.
- Successful candidate must be capable of working safely on all high voltage systems, 600 volts and up, both above ground and underground. This is accomplished either by equipment such as a Bucket Lift or may be required to use Pole Climbing Equipment.
- Successful candidate must be capable of and proficient at using and working from Pole Climbing Equipment.
- Be capable of working on overhead lighting and lighting circuits.
- Must have a valid CO Commercial Driver’s License Class B or higher.
- This position requires being on a rotating on call schedule for 24/7 emergency repairs.
- Must be able to successfully complete a National Agency Check with Inquiries (Tier 1) background check.
- Must possess the ability to work in a high-volume office area and interface in a positive manner with co-workers and the customer.
- Must possess the ability to work in a team or alone and be able to change jobs on short notice.
- Performs all assigned duties in accordance with established policies, procedures, and directives.
- Displays courtesy and skill in dealing with internal and external customers, coworkers, and management.
- Accurately maintains and updates records to enable quick and efficient retrieval of information.
- Ability to work independently.
- Ability to speak, read, and write English.
- Must possess the ability to interact well with others in a team setting ability or alone and be able to change jobs on short notice.
- Must be capable of working under tight time constraints in a high-volume environment with multiple priorities.
- Highly motivated, flexible organized and must be detail oriented.
- Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
- Must be able to maintain ability to access government worksite.
- Must have practical knowledge of worksite safety, occupational hazards, and standard safety practices.
- Depending on the location and source of the problems they have to deal with, Lineman may be required to work not only indoors but outdoors as well as and in extreme conditions, confined spaces and at excessive heights.
- Work is performed both indoors and outdoors environments. Some work is performed with exposure to low to loud noise level; frequent fieldwork is required with exposure to a variety of weather conditions and the external environment; tasks may require working in tightly enclosed spaces and the use of ladders or other safety equipment to gain access to hard-to-reach locations; some work is performed in crawl spaces, attics or on rooftops. Some work may require exposure to dust, particulates, unpleasant and potentially hazardous substances and high voltage.
- Duties require on a continuous basis to sit, stand, bend, climb ladders, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl and twist for varying periods in the course of work; use hands and fingers to grasp tools; make repetitive hand and body motions; twist and reach below and above shoulder; lift or carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds; to communicate with co-workers using a two-way radio; use telephone, and write or use a keyboard to communicate through written means; see in the normal vision range with or without correction to read computer screen, blueprints, and drafting plans; hear in the normal range with or without correction.
- Must be able to work alternate and extended shift schedules when necessary to meet the customer’s mission requirements, including weekends and holidays.
- Must have and maintain a valid state driver’s license to operate a company vehicle.
- Must have a safe driving record, as defined by Company policy, to operate a company vehicle.
- Must be able to successfully complete a drug/alcohol test and a criminal record check.
