Scope of Work:
The Staff Accountant is responsible for maintaining the accuracy and integrity of the general ledger and financial records in compliance with GAAP, FAR, CAS, and internal policies. This position plays a key role in monthly close processes, journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting audits for a government contracting organization.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare and post journal entries, accruals, and adjustments to ensure accurate month-end and year-end closings.
- Perform reconciliations for general ledger accounts including cash, accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, and fixed assets.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, FAR, CAS, and company internal controls and accounting policies.
- Support the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and related reports.
- Maintain and reconcile project/job cost data in accordance with contract requirements.
- Work closely with Program Managers, Contracts, and Project Accounting to ensure accurate cost allocation and revenue recognition.
- Assist with audits including DCAA, financial, and internal audits by providing schedules and supporting documentation.
- Maintain documentation for financial transactions, account reconciliations, and SOX/internal control compliance.
- Support continuous process improvement and automation initiatives.
- Assist with special projects, reporting, and ad-hoc analysis as needed.
- Adhere to company policies, procedures, and safety regulations.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field.
- 3+ years of accounting experience, preferably in government contracting or a similar regulated industry.
- Knowledge of FAR, CAS, and GAAP compliance.
- Experience with Deltek Costpoint or similar ERP system.
- Strong Excel skills (VLOOKUP, Pivot Tables, etc.).
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines.

- Ability to obtain and maintain a government security clearance if required.
- Experience with DCAA audit requirements preferred but not required.
- Familiarity with indirect rate structures and incurred cost submissions preferred but not required.
Physical Demands / Work Environment:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Regular use of hands and fingers for typing, writing, and handling office equipment.
- Ability to occasionally walk, reach with hands and arms, and stoop or kneel.
- May occasionally lift or move objects up to 25 pounds (e.g., files, office supplies).
- Clear vision to read documents on computer screens.
- Ability to communicate effectively in person, by phone/video meeting, and email.
